Transporting scouts and all their equipment to expeditions and training camps had become a nightmare for the leaders of the Andover and District Explorer Scouts.

The Explorer Scout programme is varied and teaches the scouts life skills, how to be a member of a team and leadership training.  They have the chance to try new challenges outside their comfort zones and this helps their confidence and self-esteem.

Testway Transform gave the group a Money Box grant of £1,200 to buy a trailer that holds all the equipment for their expeditions.

John Watkins, Scout Commissioner said; “Nearly 40 of the group are taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh programme. This involves taking huge amounts of equipment with them for training weekends or expeditions.

“The new trailer has made our trips much more environmentally friendly.  Instead of four or five parents loading their cars with equipment and travelling to and from the campsites we can now take all the gear in one vehicle.”

Paula Deverill, Charity Co-ordinator, said; “Testway's not just interested in houses but helping to make better communities and help to improve the lives of people who live in the areas where we work.  The money given from the Money Box Fund has helped these young people to continue doing what they enjoy, as well as teaching them respect, responsibility and life skills.  It’s also helped their carbon footprint too.”
