Community support

Our support services aren't just for Testway customers.  Anyone can use them apart from our tenancy support service.

What is it?

Community support is where we'll come and see you long-term to help you stay living in your own home.  This is backed up with a 24 hour emergency alarm system if you need it.

You don't have to be a Testway tenant. We give community support in the Test Valley, Eastleigh, Hart, East Hants and Havant areas.

What support will I get?

A typical support package may include:

  • working with your local council on housing benefit and/or council tax benefits

  • working with Social Services, for example occupational therapists, social support and care workers

  • working with family, friends and other agencies

  • help to get in touch with agencies who can help with shopping, cleaning, personal care and aids and adaptations

  • advice on safety and security

  • help with mixing with people

  • help and advice to get any financial benefits and grants you may be able to get

  • general reassurance so you feel safe in your own home

Whatever support you need, our main goal is for you to be confident to live happily on your own.

How do I get it?

We need an application form. You can fill it in yourself or get someone to fill it in for you. Once we’ve got your application form, we'll get in touch with you to arrange to meet and talk about the best way we can help you.

There may be a waiting list if we're very busy. But we'll let you know roughly how long you'll have to wait.

You can get an application form by telephoning us on 01264 405614. We'll give you a pre-paid envelope to send it back.

How does it work?

You'll be given the name of a support advisor who'll work with you to decide the best way that we can help you. This is called a support plan. You and your support advisor will work through your support plan together. As things change, your support plan will change. So we'll automatically look at your support plan every six months. But you can ask us to look at it at any other time.

What does it cost?

If you're 60 or over, and you get housing benefit, or council tax benefit, or guaranteed pension credit, you could get a Supporting People Grant. This means you may not have to pay for community support. If you have a low income, but don't get any of these benefits, please talk to us as you may still be able to get the grant funding. If you can't get a Supporting People Grant, you can pay for community support.
